Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals

If you are interested in having a baptism, wedding, or funeral at the Chapel, please contact the office at sjdoffice@gmail.com. All of our liturgies follow the service orders in the Book of Common Prayer. The Chapel can seat around 70 people.

Baptisms

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church. Periodically, we offer baptism classes to teach the meaning of Baptism, to instruct parents and godparents in their duties to help their candidates grow in the knowledge and love of God, and to empower them to uphold their responsibilities as members of the Church. Baptisms take place during our Sunday Eucharist at 9:00 am.

Weddings

The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage is an expression of Christian community in which a couple makes their vows before God and the Church, and the priest blesses the marriage on behalf of the Church. At least one member of the couple must be a baptized Christian and the couple must make a commitment that the marriage is intended to be life-long. Couples are prepared for marriage through counseling with the priest using the Prepare/Enrich program. Typically, this is done through three or four 45-minute sessions.

Funerals

Funerals provide an important time for bereaved family and friends to gather together and commend their loved one into the everlasting care of God. See Burial Service Planning worksheet for more details.

If a loved one is near death, please be in touch with the priest so that they can be of pastoral support to you during this time. When someone is nearing the end of their earthly lives, the priest offers Sacrament of the Sick, in which the person is prayed for, anointed with holy oil, and given Holy Communion (if they are able to receive.) The priest is also available to offer prayers at the Time of Death.
